This is the moment an endangered pangolin hoovered up ants with its long tongue.

The rarely seen feeding behaviour took place in central South Africa on May 20.

The scaly mammal is due for release in the near future by the wildlife charity Scales Pangolin Rescue Fund (SPRF).

"Usually, the feeding is done underground and out of sight," said Warren North from (SPRF).

"With the help of rolling over a rock for the pangolin that he was interested in, we were able to see the dexterity of the pangolin's tongue," he added.
