This is the dramatic moment a flash flood destroyed a house as the northwestern monsoon dumped heavy rains in Thailand.

Footage shows the house collapsing after its wooden foundations were battered by the deluge in Lampang province on May 17.

The owner could be heard shouting in horror in the background as she watched her property fall to the ground.

No one was reported hurt as the home was empty when the collapse happened.

Somthat Kankaew said she fled from the property the night before after the flash flood because she felt the ground shaking.

She said: ‘I felt the ground shaking and my house was swaying with the water. I knew its foundations had been damaged.

‘I stayed with my relative’s house which was next to mine. I was shocked when my house was destroyed the next day right in front of my eyes.’

The structure’s foundation had been severely damaged after the rain poured in the district for days before a flash flood flowed from the river.

A northwestern monsoon and a low-pressure area of weather dumped heavy rains to northern part of Thailand as wet season starts in the Southeast Asian country.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are at the start of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which last until late November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.

Many of the under-developed nations struggle to cope with the heavy rain due to under-investment infrastructure.
