Briggs Marine vessel 'Cameron' was seen replacing red 'Danger!' warning buoys surrounding the UK's most dangerous shipwreck - SS Richard Montgomery in the Thames, 1.5 miles off Sheerness in Kent - during stormy weather this afternoon (May 24).

The doomed American Liberty cargo ship sank in 1944 with 1400 tonnes of explosives onboard.

The ship's three masts are to be removed due to corrosion, with work expected to start next month.

The ship is surrounded by an exclusion zone formed by four large yellow buoys in a diamond shape. Smaller red buoys with 'Danger!' written on then form 'dotted lines' between the yellow markers.

The exclusion zone, which all craft are prohibited from entering, is monitored 24/7 by Port of Sheerness on behalf of the Coastguard.

Once the masts are gone, only the buoys and sea charts will remind mariners of the wreck's presence.
