Bus driver survives terrifying head-on collision without seatbelt or airbag in southern India
This was the shocking moment a bus driver was thrown out of his seat but miraculously survived a head-on collision with another bus.
The May 17 accident near Edappadi town in southern India left 30 passengers, between both buses, injured.
Footage from CCTV cameras onboard one of the buses shows driver Arunachalam driving his vehicle when another bus drives straight into his.
Arunachalam is violently thrown out of his seat as the bus hits a tree and comes to a halt.
Officers from Konganapuram police station rushed to the scene and injured passengers were taken to government hospitals in Edappadi, Sankagiri and Salem.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
“The old buses do not have seat belts for the driver. That is a major design flaw,” said an officer.
