Pacto Historico (Historic Pact) party leader Gustavo Petro held a Colombian election rally in Plaza de Bolivar in Bogota on Sunday 22 May.

The leftist leads the polls in the upcoming presidential election, due on 29 May.

Francia Marquez, an Afro-Colombian activist and Petro's running mate, was the star of the night, which also included music and other performances.

First soundbite - Angie Jimenez (speaking in Spanish): "Colombia is very complex, but is also wonderful in every sense: culturally, socially, politically, the countryside... Colombia`s lands are rich, and we need to value our villagers and thrive. We will achieve that improvement with Petro".

Second soundbite - Edith Montañez Munoz (in Spanish): "The change, the change, I want the change to a new Colombia. We have been led 200 years by traditional political parties, and 22 years with former president Uribe's party. We, the women, want change. For our life's sake, for the land, for all we want change. We go for the victory. And Also Francia Marques is a woman, an afro descendant, environmentalist... we will protect the land."
