Stunning time-lapse of rare noctilucent clouds crossing UK skies in sign of climate change

Buy video

This is a compilation video featuring various time-lapses of noctilucent clouds, filmed from Northern Ireland between 2018 and 2021.

NLCs, as they are also called, are special clouds which only appear on summer nights. They are located within the mesosphere, 82km (51 miles) above the Earth's surface, on the edge of space.

NLC particles are composed of 4.5 billion-year-old meteoritic material from comets and asteroids which become encased in ice crystals through the process of nucleation. They reflect sunlight and hence glow in our night skies.

Their presence has increased over the years, with methane being responsible for this increase, and as such are a sign of global warming.

The video was captured in 1080p HD with a DSLR and various lenses.
