Delivery riders protested their company's new system of fulfilling orders amid high fuel prices in Thailand.

The food delivery workers gathered to plan a two-day strike in Ang Thong province starting May 25, saying the new policy implemented by 'LineMan' has reduced their income - a problem compounded by rising petrol costs in the country.

In the previous system, the riders would jostle for orders, allowing for a higher income ceiling if they can complete their deliveries efficiently. However, under the new setup, the firm - which runs a food delivery app - will assign the orders instead, resulting in lower returns for staff.

Food rider Nataphong Seniwong Na Ayuthaya said: 'In the past, the riders would get about two to four orders per hour, but currently, they get only one per hour, so they are getting a lower income now than before because of the new company’s method.'

He added that the recent hike in fuel prices has further hurt their livelihood.

He said: 'We decided to go on strike for two days starting on May 25 to ask the company to use the old method. If that does not work, we will go on strike again for a longer period.'
