Cleaners and their supporters protested outside Downing Street in London on the evening of Friday 27 May.

They were demanding justice for Whitehall cleaner Emanuel Gomes, who died from Covid-19 in the period during which parties were being held in Downing Street in breach of lockdown rules at the time.

It was also in protest against alleged “disrespect” towards cleaners by those in government.

The so-called Partygate scandal is centred on a series of illegal parties held in Downing Street, home to Prime Minister Boris Johnson's official residence, at a time when the public was banned from holding such gatherings and thousands of fines were being handed out for lockdown rule breaches.

Mr Johnson was eventually himself fined for breaking the law, as part of the police's investigation into the parties.
