A huge number of horses danced to the beat of local drummers while ridden by local women during the 'Sayyang Pattuqduq' cultural festival in Indonesia on Thursday May 26.

Footage filmed in Polewali Mandar in West Sulawesi province shows two young women in traditional clothes riding horses that are being paraded around the S. Mengga stadium.

When they hear the rhythm of the tambourine drums, the horses, each of which are escorted by four men, start prancing like they are dancing.

The local head of the Education and Culture Office, Andi Masri Masdar, celebrated the return of the festival, after a two-year break because of the pandemic.

In addition to preserving the traditions of the Mandar tribe and celebrating Mandar children who have completed reading the Koran, the festival was also held to introduce cultural heritage to UNESCO officials who were present.

"There are 179 horses and 400 women taking part in this event," said Masdar officials.

Tourists also attend and take pictures of this tradition, which is closely linked to Islamic culture.
