Beto O'Rourke, a leading Democrat politician, was one of several speakers to address a crowd of thousands outside the National Rifle Association's convention in Houston, Texas on Friday 27 May.

The protest opposed the NRA's convention as well as liberal gun laws in the US, and particularly Texas.

On Tuesday, 19 students and two teachers were killed when a teenage gunman entered Ulvalde school in Texas.

Outside the convention centre there was also tension as protesters yelled 'shame on you' at convention attendees, some of whom responded angrily.

Inside, there were long lines of people waiting to enter the ballroom where former president Trump is due to speak.

Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke is an American politician who served as representative for Texas's 16th congressional district from 2013 to 2019, stood for the US Senate in 2018 and for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.
