Youth rescued by police and fire department after falling into river in northern India
A young man was rescued by the police and fire department in northern India's Himachal Pradesh.
The incident happened 500 meters away from the center of the Beas Bridge at Manali Leh Road Post Office on May 27, Friday.
The man, identified as a 26-year old tourist, got washed away by the water from river Beas after he slipped and fell while trying to click a picture.
Upon getting the information, the Manali police and fire department came to the young man's rescue.
Video footage showed officials conducting the rescue operation. The tourist who is from Punjab, named Ahit Kumar alias Happy was guided to a safe shore by the rescue team with the help of a rope and a torch. He was later handed over to the police.
A total of seven officials from the fire department were involved in this rescue operation which included the one deputy fire officer, one leading commander, one commander, three home guards and a driver.
The whole rescue took place within an hour.
It has been learnt that there have been repeated warnings by the authorities to the tourists from going near the Beas river. There have been similar reports of tourists being rescued in recent times from the Beas river.
