Authorities have found the wreckage of a Nepal passenger plane that went missing on Sunday with 22 people on board.

The Nepalese army located the crash site of the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft in Nepal's Mustang district on Monday, May 30. A photo shared by army spokesperson Narayan Silwal showed what appeared to be debris painted with the twin-engine aircraft's name.

The passenger plane, registration 9N-AET, was operated by Tara Air and had departed for Jomsom town from Pokhara City at 9:55 am local time on Sunday, May 29. However, it lost contact with air control a few minutes before it was set to land.

Officials said the crash may have been caused by the inclement weather, which had also hampered the Nepalese Army's search and rescue efforts.

Three crew members and 19 passengers were on board. Their whereabouts are still unclear.

Flight tracker website Flightradar24 said the plane made its maiden voyage back in April 1979.
