Termite swarms have plagued the streets of Shanghai after the city's lockdown prevented pest control operations.

In the videos filmed on May 29 and May 30, large swarms are seen swirling around under street lights.

According to the Shanghai Property Management Center, the number of termites this year was the same as in previous years and was still under control.

Affected by temperature and humidity, Shanghai tends to experience termite swarms in May and June.

It’s understood that the lockdown in the city that started in late March has affected the prevention and control of the termites to some degree.

Around 54 prevention and control enterprises will help clear out the insects in June when the lockdown is planned to be gradually lifted.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
