A bear was rescued after falling down a well in central India's Madhya Pradesh.

Officials were called to Rewa after locals found the animal stranded in the well.

Several ropes were tied around the bear before the animal was hoisted out of the watery pit.

Once rescued the bear was sent to Tiger Safari for a checkup.

A bear was rescued by police and forest officials after it fell into a well in central India's Madhya Pradesh.

The incident happened in Nawadih village located in Rewa district which comes under the aegis of Baikunthpur police station on May 29.

The animal reportedly slipped and fell into the well at night while it was roaming around the village.

Visuals showed efforts being made to rescue the animal from the well. It was learned that the villagers first tried to rescue the animal and after they failed to do so they called the authorities for help.

According to reports, when the villagers reached the well they heard that a strange sound was coming from inside the well. On hearing the sound, the villagers immediately saw inside it where they saw the animal running from one place to another in the water

The villagers informed the Baikunthpur police about this incident and the police reached the spot and informed the forest department.

At first, an attempt was made to take him out with a stick, which did not succeed.

Video footage showed a few officials descending into the water to tie the animal around a net with long ropes.

They were eventually able to pull it out of the well. After investigation, the bear was sent to Tiger Safari by the Forest Department team. It is believed that the bear must have been hungry and went to the village in search of food. Due to darkness, it could not see anything and fell into it.
