Passengers scream as turbulence rocks plane during aborted landing in Indonesia
This is the chaotic moment passengers screamed as turbulence rocked a plane during an aborted landing in Indonesia.
The passengers were on board the Garuda Indonesia jet when the stormy weather struck ar Mutiara Sis Aljufri Airport in Palu, Central Sulawesi on Sunday May 29.
As the Boeing 737 was about to land, extreme turbulence shook the aircraft. The pilot aborted the landing and had to perform a go-around.
Footage shows the inside of the shaking plane as screaming passengers and crying children could be heard in the background. Murmurs of people praying could also be heard amid the chaos.
Shaken passenger Kartika Lestari said: ‘The plane failed to land. We almost touched the runway but took off again. I took the video shortly after.
‘We were all scared. Children were crying and everyone was praying. We were hanging there for almost 30 minutes.’
After almost 30 minutes, at around 3:10 pm local time, the plane successfully landed. No one was hurt in the incident. Passenger Kartika said they thanked the pilot for their safety.
He said: ‘We thanked the pilot for keeping everyone safe. It was such a scary moment.’
After the video of the incident spread, Garuda Indonesia President Director Irfan Setiaputra released a statement, noting that what the pilot did 'often happens’.
He said: ‘That's an incident that often happens. It was decided to fly around again to avoid a bad situation.’
