A passenger was arrested at Jaipur International Airport in India with 2.3kg gold hidden in his clothing iron, on arrival from Muscat in Oman on Sunday 29 May.

While scanning the passenger's checked-in baggage, the image of a dark object was noticed on the scan.

When the passenger denied possessing any contraband, the bag was opened and the clothes-press was found.

Inside, its pressure plate was found to be made of gold, covered with a steel plate, according to an official statement.

The gold weighed almost 2,332 grams and was valued at over 12.2 million rupees (1.22 crore) or 157,314 US dollars, an official said.

The gold has been seized and the accused arrested.
