Six Taiwanese nationals were arrested for alleged cryptocurrency fraud in Thailand.

The alleged fraud gang members were raided on a rented house in Bangkok on May 27.

Six laptops and 47 mobile phones were seized from them, which authorities believed were being used to lure more than 500 victims into their scheme.

The accused would face multiple charges including working without permission, drug offenses, and overstaying of visa before they would be deported.

Immigration Bureau officer Police Major General Archayon Kraithong said: 'They arrived here on suspicious working visa and upon checking, two of them were wanted in their home country for fraud.

‘A team of investigators had been watching them since they arrived.'

The foreigners acquired working visas by pretending to work in a bogus charitable foundation. Officers detected that two of them had been wanted in Taiwan for internet and telephone fraud.

They were traced to be staying at a rented townhouse in the capital's Prate district, but the men would rarely come out of the property despite claiming to be working in the Southeast Asian country. The suspicious behavior led to authorities issuing a search warrant on the house and the group had been arrested.

The group was found to have been using a Chinese bank account for their money transactions and using the house in Thailand as an operational base.

Police said the Taiwanese suspects will be deported after the charges filed against them were completed.

Taiwan is an independent island country off the coast of China.
