Late spring sees a natural spectacle of hundreds of thousands of wild poppies in bloom on coastal land between Holywell Bay and Crantock near Newquay Cornwall the land is cultivated especially to protect wild flowers and insects that provide for species in need of protection such as Skylarks, Corn bunting and Brown Hares. The land is mostly in a High Level Stewardship scheme and farmed by Bob Coad who ploughs half of the fields in the Spring or autumn and ploughs and sows Barley in the spring, the freshly disturbed soil favours the Poppies. Thousands of visitors flock to the spectacle each year.
