Crazed Canadian tourist arrested after hurling rocks at bank in Thailand
A Canadian tourist was arrested after allegedly hurling rocks at a bank in Thailand.
Kent Douglas Meades, 44, was seen pulling over his rented motorbike in front of a Bangkok Bank branch when the incident happened in Mae Hong Son province, on June 1.
The holiday maker ignored onlookers and took large rocks from his scooter which he then appeared to hurl towards the security glass doors.
After allegedly destroying more furniture inside the bank, the Canadian-Russian dual citizen reportedly left without stealing anything and was later arrested in front of a nearby bar.
Provincial police chief Police Major General Pitchaya Bunkhajorn said: ‘We were informed of the crime by the bank manager. We tracked him down and found him not far on a public road in front of a bar.'
The bank manager Suthiporn Buntankan complained that the foreigner destroyed several security doors, window sections, and three computer monitors.
The total damage he caused was estimated to be at least 460,000 baht (10,691 GBP) after police found 25 large rocks which he reportedly carried on his motorcycle.
Upon checking his passport, the tourist was found to have been overstaying his visa which expired on April 17.
Police said that Kent had been remanded in custody while he is processed for deporting due to his expired visa.
