Cheese rolling 2022: Watch North Carolina's Abby Lampe's gloriously bumpy descent that won her first place
Locals say only the bravest and craziest can take on Coopers Hill in Brockworth near Gloucester in southwest England.
Many geared up with a last minute pep talk and many had a quick swig of an alcoholic beverage before taking part in this years Cheese Rolling.
Five races were held with a maximum of 25 participants who risked throwing themselves down the steep hill for a wheel of Double Gloucester cheese.
Participants are warned by organisers that they risk themselves serious injury by taking part.
The famous catchers at the bottom of the hill, which is made up of burly men from Brockworth Rugby Club, catch participants as they come tumbling down the hill at speed.
Local legend Chris Anderson and Abby Lampe from Raleigh, North Carolina were among the event's winners.
Video shows Lampe's winning run. She is a recent Industrial and Systems Engineering graduate who is currently spending the summer in Spain but flew over to take part in the cheese race.
She also stated on Twitter that she didn't lose consciousness despite taking a beating as she tumbled down the steep hill.
