Hundreds of Chinese tourists wore matching white hazmat suits as they boarded a plane.

The holiday makers were flying from Phnom Penh International Airport in Cambodia to the Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport in Xiamen, China, on Sunday June 5.

Passenger at the boarding gate were wearing white hazmat suits, face masks and face shields while some even had plastic goggles covering their eyes. It is unclear if the airline enforces the rule or the passengers themselves opted for the over-the-top form of travel protection.

The bizarre scene was in response to cases of Covid-19 on the Communist Chinese mainland, where party chiefs have enforced cruel lockdowns since 2020.

In contrast, Cambodia has not recorded a single case of the virus since May 8 despite not enforcing mask wearing or closures.

China - where the pandemic started - has also seen the number of cases falling since mid-April.
