Firefighters drilled through a resident's bathroom to save a kitten that was trapped under the tiles.

The team was called on the scene when the house owner heard strange sounds coming from the toilet and realised it was a cat in Cakung district, Jakarta, Indonesia, on June 5.

However, the hole was too small for the volunteers to pull the kitten up so they had to chip off some of the tiles and concrete to widen it.

Footage shows the rescuers using power tools to drill through the floor and reach the frightened feline.

Fire Marshall Suhada said: ‘After receiving the report, we immediately rushed to the location to carry out the rescue.'

Upon inspection, the kitten had fallen down a 30cm-long pipe. The resident believed that the kitten might have been playing on their roof when it slipped down the pipe.

The rescue mission had encountered problems because the condition of the pipe was covered with thick concrete.

Firefighters had to destroy the concrete first, before cutting the pipe and saving the doomed cat.

Rescuer Suhada said: ‘It took about three hours, we are grateful the kitten survived.'

After three hours of drilling, the kitten was finally freed and the house owners decided to adopt it into their home.
