Three children were killed while three others were injured after a fire ripped through homes in Quezon City, Philippines on Sunday.

The youngsters aged four, eight and nine were trapped on the third floor of the building, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The bodies were later recovered by fire crews securing the residential area in Barangay Tatalon.

In a statement released by the BFP, the children's father reportedly told the authorities that the family woke up to a smell of smoke coming from the third floor after the fire broke out at their house around 4:15 a.m. local time.

The couple then discovered that the living room was already engulfed by fire.

The BFP also stated that the horrified couple grabbed their four-month-old baby and threw him through a window where neighbors waited to catch him.

Furthermore, the children's parents and their 12-year sibling reportedly suffered injuries after jumping out of the second floor window. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities reported that the fire reached the first alarm and was put out at around 4:47 a.m.

Arson investigators revealed that the fire broke out in an empty room on the third floor due to faulty electrical wiring.
