A report of a small plane crashing in Hemet, Riverside County, California indicates the pilot was critically injured on June 7 after smashing into a backyard on the descent.

Reports of other injuries are unknown.

Hemet Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a plane crash. Arriving crews located a small passenger plane crashed into the backyard of a residence in the 1700 block of Warren Road, in Hemet, Riverside County, CA.

The crash caused a fire that was began threatening nearby homes but was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

The pilot was transported to a local trauma center with burns on 80% of his body.

The plane caused damage to the home and a backyard wall during the crash but no residents of that home were injured. It's unknown what caused the plane to crash and and ongoing investigation is underway.

Warren Rd has been closed down in both directions of travel in the vicinity of the incident pending clearing of the crash remains and conclusion of the investigation.
