Footage shows a flooded market after a heavy rain storm battered Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Tuesday afternoon.

The deluge swamped the aisles of the Russian Market, a popular local market listed on TripAdvisor as one of the top places in the country to visit.

Stall owners and traders had to take shelter, while others collected the rainwater due to the chronic shortage in the country.

Cambodia and neighboring countries in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are at the start of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which last until late November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.

Many of the under-developed nations struggle to cope with the heavy rain due to under-investment infrastructure.
