Angry villagers lynched a fugitive who admitted raping and killing two teenage girls in Thailand 14 years ago.

The mob of more than 60 furious locals, including the family of the alleged victims, broke through police tape and descended on Nai Chert Srijoon, 53, who was reenacting the crime in Phetchaburi province on June 4.

One of the girl's fathers was also present at the scene, holding a framed portrait of his daughter while waiting to pounce on the suspect.

Several punches were thrown at the alleged child rapist as locals jostled with police to get hold of him.

Due to the chaos, the crime reenactment was cancelled and Chert was bundled back into a police van to be taken back to the station.

Footage shows how officers struggled to control the crowd that tried to block the car as it was about to leave.

Chert had reportedly evaded arrest for 14 years by travelling across different provinces in the country. He said he had stayed in Klong Toei area of Bangkok for two years, then hid in Lopburi province before finally returning to his hometown in Chanthaburi where he was arrested.

The suspect told police that he managed to avoid detection by not using his Thai ID card when looking for jobs. He also reportedly admitted to killing and raping the two girls before murdering them.

The middle-aged fugitive allegedly strangled a girl, 13, to death when she refused to sleep with him in 2008. He then disposed of her body in a swamp.

His second victim, a girl, 16, who was 16 weeks pregnant, was raped and strangled to death on the same night. Her body was left in the scrub forest near the same area.

Chert, however, could not specify where he had left both the bodies as he claimed the landscape looks drastically different after 14 years.

Police Colonel Worawat Kamwong said the suspect had admitted the crimes.

The policeman said: ‘We could not continue with the reenactment for the case as it was too chaotic. We have contacted related agencies to start an investigation to find out where the suspect had left the bodies.

‘Before the incident in Phetchaburi province in 2008, Chert was also accused of rape in Mukdahan province in 2007. We have already charged him for intentional killing and sexual assault on minors below 15. He will be delivered to investigators for further legal proceedings and remanded in custody for his own safety.'
