A bungling tourist was rescued after posing for selfies on rocks as the tide came in on a beach in Thailand.

The 17-year-old female student reportedly spent more than an hour taking beautiful snaps of herself with the Bangsaen beach as background while she stood on the rockies in Chonburi province, on June 4.

The youngster's friends had all returned to shore except for her as she wanted to take more pictures of the sunset behind her.

However, the water rose and slowly submerged the rocks until the tide was too high for her to return to dry land.

Sattiwat, a beachgoer who helped raise the alarm, said: ‘We heard someone shouting ‘help, help' and saw the girl. She could not walk back to the beach because the tide was high and the current was strong.'

The young tourist was reportedly scared she would be swept away if she waded back. The other tourists called the police for help.

Before the officer arrived, a villager who knew the area well then walked on the submerged rocks and guided the trapped youngster back.

The girl reached the beach without injuries and promised the locals to be more careful when taking selfies.
