South African president Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the media in a post budget budget press briefing. The president entered the briefing under a cloud of allegations which have trended as #Farmgate on social media.

The furore comes after a former spy boss, Arthur Fraser, laid criminal charges against Ramaphosa after allegations emerged that a burglary at the President’s game farm Phala Phala was allegedly covered up by the president. The alleged reason for the cover up was because it is alleged that large amounts of undeclared foreign currency possibly amount to four million dollars was stolen.

Ramaphosa remain tight lipped and said he would wait for investigations and legal processes to unfold. Ramaphosa also suspended the Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, after she announced her office would launch and investigation into the allegations. The Public Protector investigators amongst other things corruption in state institutions.

Ramaphosa is under immense public glare as he unseated former resident Jacob Zuma by campaigning as an anti-corruption fighter.
