There were angry scenes in Beawar, Rajasthan, as Muslims across India held protests after Friday prayers, against recent anti-Islamic slurs by senior BJP leaders.

Muslim community held 'Aakrosh Rally' a march under the leadership of the Islamia Intejamiya Okaf Jama Masjid Committee from mosque. Protesters, holding placards in their hands and raised slogans fiercely. Muslims presents a memorandum to Additional SP Sumit Mehrada for the name of Indian President. They demanded immediate arrest of both leaders and strict punishment.

Muslim members wrote in the memorandum that Nupur Sharma has hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslim community by using derogatory words for Prophet Mohammad in a TV channel debate.

The 10 June protests were triggered by anti-Islamic remarks by ruling-party BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma during a TV debate about Gyanvapi Mosque.

Hindus claim the mosque is built on the ruins of a 16th Century Hindu shrine. Some want permission to pray inside the mosque complex while others want to demolish it to restore the temple they claim was once there.

Nupur Sharma is a national spokeswoman for the ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The head of the BJP's media unit, Naveen Jindal, was also expelled from the party for sharing a screenshot of the offensive remarks, on Twitter.

There were large protests on Friday at Delhi's Jama Masjid mosque and around the country, including in Kolkata, Howrah, Ranchi, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Ahmedabad and Saharanpur.

In Uttar Pradesh some protests ended in violent clashes.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has faced a backlash from Muslims at home and abroad, including from a large number of Gulf countries, after two officials from his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) commented in late May and earlier this month on the prophet's private life.
