The streets of Thessaloniki in northern Greece have been turned into rivers due to a severe weather system named "Genesis", on Tuesday (June 14) afternoon.

Vehicles were swept away by the rushing waters on the main streets of the city, while bridges were flooded, as a result of which the traffic of vehicles was interrupted on main roads. Damages in shops, hotels, and other businesses were also reported as up to 220 calls have been received by the Operations Center of the Fire Brigade, due to the heavy rain that has turned the roads into rivers in just a few hours.

Footage shows vehicles stranded in rushing waters as drivers were immobilized for hours inside their vehicles in various places of the city.

A business owner named Aimilios whose shop was destroyed during the flash flood talked on camera (timestamp 01:15) "Such a terrible situation as you can see, shop's window broke all over by the rushing waters during the flash flood. It started to rain heavily and all the water came into my shop. Sewers became clogged, creating a torrent of mud from an adjacent construction site. We ran out of the store to avoid being trapped inside.
