Residents raced wild river crabs during a festival in the Philippines.

Footage shows locals releasing the crustaceans into a makeshift bamboo race track in Laguna province, the Philippines on May 15.

The crabs then scuttled towards the finish line at the end of the bamboo pole while excited locals cheered for their favourites.

Village official Kevin Pamatmat said: 'The people enjoyed this event. Our villagers catch and sell river crabs so we thought of highlighting them in our celebration.'

The Philippines has thousands of different local festivals or fiestas across remote villages that celebrate religious figures such as patron saints.
