Footage of the peculiar British tradition of 'swan upping' taking place on Monday in Surrey, UK.

The filmer wrote online: "Royal Swan Upping is an annual ceremony in which mute swans on the River Thames are rounded up, caught, marked, and then released. Swan upping is carried out by the Worshipful Company of Vintners and the Worshipful Company of Dyers, under the command of the Queen's Swan Warden. The ceremony dates from the 12th Century, when the crown claimed ownership of all mute swans.

"The 2015 Swan upping will take place from the 20th to 24th July. The video shows the first catch of 2015 being tagged and weighed at Sunbury Lock."
