A wild boar that fell into a well while running away from dogs was rescued in Thailand.

The animal reportedly fled from canines chasing after it but stumbled into the 12ft deep empty well in Krabi province. Its cries were heard by staff mowing grass at the back of a nearby school on May 27.

They checked the source of the sound and found the beast lying still at the bottom of the well.

Rescue services arrived and pulled the creature out using rope tied to a PVC pipe. The creature thrashed as it was dragged up, and quickly ran away upon being freed.

It weighed around 20kg and is believed to have been trapped in the well for several days as it appeared weakened and was reportedly thinner than average.

The boar has since been released into the wild.
