This bodyboarding dog in Manasquan, New Jersey, glided across a swimming pool to retrieve her floating toy.

Footage recorded on June 16 shows Abby hopping on a small board to float across to the other side of the pool without getting wet.

The clever pooch is able to balance herself on the board while leaning from side to side to guide the board's direction.

Abby's owner told Newsflare: "Abby will play for hours! We have to place a leash on her to bring her inside as she is exhausted and will not stop playing on her own."

She also added how she first met the pooch: "Our sweet Abby girl was rescued from a high kill shelter after suffering from severe abuse and neglect by her first owners.

"We rescued Abby from the kill shelter just one day before she was set to be euthanized at no fault of her own. Simply due to shelter overcrowding.

"I introduced Abby to our pool, she wanted nothing to do with it! Abby was not food motivated. We learned, however, that she was highly motivated with toys.

"I placed Abby on her bodyboard, at first she was very afraid. Then I placed her favourite ball in the pool just far enough away from her.

"Next step was to show her that moving the board will bring her to the ball. Abby picked up so quickly, she’s so smart!

"Abby leaned that by shifting her weight and moving her paws, all while balancing on the board will bring her to the ball!"
