Tourists are starting to return to a unique Thai food market with a train line running through.

Footage shows holidaymakers and backpackers wandering among the stalls today at the Mae Klong Railway Market in Samut Songkhram province, central Thailand.

The vendors could be seen frantically folding their stall roofs when the train arrived to pass, making for an unusual scene.

Most of the stalls had to close down during the pandemic to follow Covid-19 restrictions and lack of customers.

However, now the market is open again with a wide variety of locally-produced fruits and vegetables being sold on the stalls. Tourists are also returning to the famous travel spot following the easing of travel restrictions earlier this month.

Despite suffering a major economic downturn due to the pandemic, Thailand's tourism industry has shown a quicker than expected recovery.

Bank of Thailand analysts believe that the number of foreign visitors will be six million this year and around 19 million in 2023. There were around 40 million foreign arrivals in 2019 before the pandemic struck, with around a quarter of those coming from neighbouring China.
