Footage shows how a sweet shop sells fresh cannabis alongside gummy bears after the drug was decriminalised in Thailand.

The store called Chopaka, on the busy Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok, has different flavours of the plant which shoppers can buy for between 500 Baht (11.54 GBP) to 1,000 Baht (23.07 GBP) per gram. Bizarrely, they also sell gummies and other sweets next to the powerful substance.

Under the change in legislature, which came into effect last week, anyone can by marijuana products and take them home to smoke. Dozens of shops and market stalls selling the drug have also appeared and residents are now allowed to grow their own at home.

Ministers hope the move will boost the country's economy through marijuana's links to agriculture, medicine and tourism.

However, since marijuana's decriminalisation, four people have been admitted to hospital after using the drug. A fifty-one-year-old man later died of heart failure as he suffered chest pain after consumption.

Although recreational use of cannabis or hemp is no longer illegal in Thailand, users can be fined up to 25,000 THB or jailed for up to three months for public nuisance offences connected to using it (576.82 GBP).

Opponents to the move claim it could cause long-term metal health problems among people who use it regularly.
