Thailand's Khaosan Road nightlife erupts as Covid-19 rules are finally scrapped
Footage shows nightlife swinging again on Khaosan Road in Bangkok, Thailand, as the country finally eased its Covid-19 restrictions.
The famous destination - popular with backpackers and tourists - has bars and clubs open again following more than two years of rules banning partying.
It comes as ministers vowed to scrap their outdoor mask mandates as well as the bizarre 'Thailand Pass' entry system burdening holidaymakers with excessive paperwork.
Despite suffering a major economic downturn due to the pandemic, Thailand's tourism industry has shown a quicker than expected recovery.
Bank of Thailand analysts believe that the number of foreign visitors will be six million this year and around 19 million in 2023. There were around 40 million foreign arrivals in 2019 before the pandemic struck, with around a quarter of those coming from neighbouring China.
Khaosan Road, also called Khao San Road, is close to the city's royal palace and known for its all-hours bars and restaurants serving cheap drinks and food.
