Rumours of an imminent fuel shortage have triggered long queues outside India's petrol stations.

This clip, which was filmed on June 16, shows huge crowds waiting to refuel in the region of Jammu and Kashmir.

It has been reported that some parts of India are witnessing fuel shortages, especially the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. The crisis is attributed to private companies shutting down or reducing their supply of petrol and diesel. On Thursday (June 16) jet fuel prices rocketed.

According to local media outlets, many people rushed to the nearest station in Srinagar, and similar scenes were witnessed in other Indian cities too.

The rumours have caused severe delays and long waiting times for customers. Consequently, this led to additional speculation about supply constraints.

The Indian Government has reassured its citizens by saying that there is a sufficient supply of petrol and diesel to meet the country's energy demands.
