Galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla roseicapilla) have become common cockatoos on the Swan Coastal Plain of Western Australia since the mid-1970s. This large Galah flock was feeding on Couch Grass (Cynodon dactylon) rhizomes and surprisingly the stems of yellow-flowering Soursob (Oxalis pes-caprae), a weed of South African origin. The oxalic acid found in Soursob is toxic, and may cause dizziness and other problems in people, including kidney stones.
