A coastal abrasion in Amurang, North Sulawesi, saw dozens of beachside homes get dragged into the sea.

Families were forced to evacuate their homes as around 20 houses were heavily damaged and five were washed away by the abrasion.

The Regional Secretary of Minsel Regency Glady Kawatu stated that bridges, restaurants and resorts were also damaged.

Dozens of houses, restaurants and bridges in the Kambio area, Amurang District, South Minahasa Regency (Minsel) were washed away by beach abrasion, Wednesday (15/6/2022). There were no casualties in the disaster, but hundreds of dozens of families were forced to flee to safe locations.

The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Minsel Regency, Glady Kawatu, said that abrasion at Amurang Beach resulted in 20 houses being heavily damaged and five others being washed away, including bridges, restaurants and resorts.

There is no data on the number of fatalities, but the number of victims affected by the affected families is temporarily recorded, but there are around 25 families," said Glady Kawatu.

The Minsel Regency Government, he said, had opened a main command post for the refugees located at the Lewet Lurah Office, and three standby posts at uwuran one, at the former PGA and at the Lurah office.

"The government appeals to people living in the vicinity of the disaster area because there is still potential for disaster-prone areas in accordance with the submissions from the relevant regional apparatus. So, we ask people around the disaster area to go to evacuation posts that have been prepared by the government," he said.

In addition, the government temporarily closed the existing market and will be relocated because the conditions around the market are worrying because it is close to the disaster site

"Various aids have arrived, including from the BPBD of North Sulawesi Province. We certainly hope that the support from all stakeholders will ease the suffering burden of the victims," ​​he said.
