A TikTok doctor has revealed why people should never wear shoes inside their own homes.

Dr Karan Rajan, a surgical doctor and lecturer at Sunderland University, shares his experience and knowledge with his 4.3 million followers on TikTok.

In one of his latest videos, Dr Karan told his followers said people wearing shoes inside the house bring in millions of microbes – which he says it worse than what is on a toilet seat.

In the video he then jokes: "And you wouldn't catch anyone wiping their toilet seat all over their floor."

People who also stomp around their home in the same shoes they've worn all day will also be dragging in particles which can cause nasty infections.

Dr Karan also listed toxic chemicals picked up on the surface of your shoe from tarmac and the road as another reason to be weary.

He then urges people to "de-shoe" before entering their home and to "delete anyone who doesn't".

The video was uploaded on his TikTok (@dr.karanr) and has racked up more than 688,000 views and 53,000 likes.

One social media user commented: "Can you come round and explain this to my husband!"

Another person wrote: "People with dogs," followed by a surprised look emoji causing Dr Rangarian to reply with: "I have a dog & clean his paws after a walk outdoors."

One viewer joked: "Good thing I'm not eating off the ground!"

"My grandmother died at 97 and she wore her shoes inside. I’ll be fine,” said someone else.

Another person commented: "I knew I wasn’t mad with a no shoe policy."
