This is the scary moment a sudden tropical storm downpour battered a street food stall on the roadside in Thailand.

Severe rain coupled with strong gusts of wind hit the salad stand being run by Phornchit Rampa's in Phichit province on June 16.

Footage shows how Phornchit struggled to take down the poles of his tent as the gales whipped through the street and drenched his belongings.

Thailand's Meteorological Department said the country's northern regions, including Phichit, experienced 'isolated rain, except for scattered to fairly widespread rain' between June 13 to 19.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
