Huge fire breaks out at Shanghai petrochemical plant, killing 1
A huge fire broke out at Shanghai's petrochemical plant, killing one person in eastern China.
Video filmed on June 18 shows bright flames lighting up the dark sky and heavy smoke rising into the air.
Nearby residents told Shanghai TV that they heard a loud explosive sound at around 4 am and went downstairs to check it out. They then saw black smoke and smelled the pungent odour from 3 kilometres away.
According to reports, the fire occurred in the ethylene glycol plant area of Sinopec's petrochemical plant at around 4 am.
Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene and the fire has been put out at 4:30 pm on June 19 after a 36-hour operation.
One person was killed and one person suffered minor injuries.
