A stunning Summer Solstice sunrise was seen to rise over the Thames Estuary this morning (June 21) from Sheerness in Kent, UK.

The fiery sun rose into a crimson-coloured sky behind WW2 shipwreck SS Richard Montgomery in the Thames and passing shipping.

An 'Omega' effect was observed as the sun rose part-way above the horizon and the 'third quarter' moon was also visible in the morning sky.

It was announced last year the masts of the shipwreck were to be cut off in June this year, but no exact date for the works has been given yet.
