Australian bird Galah (Pink and Grey Cockatoo) destroys palm tree by ring barking it

Buy video

Yesterday I was admiring a freshly pruned palm tree on the shore of Warners Bay near Newcastle , Australia. In fact it looked so nice I filmed it (12 to 15 seconds)
This morning I was walking by the same tree when I noticed all these bits and pieces falling from it.
I looked up and saw a Galah systematically ring barking the tree using its beak.
The Galah is a very common Australian parrot that is also known as the Pink and Grey Cockatoo.
I don't know why it was chewing the soft parts of the palm tree. It didn't appear to be eating any of it. Maybe it was making a home. It appeared that the second Galah was its mate, but I'm not sure.
Maybe it was showing off to its mate, maybe it just gave the bird satisfaction.
