Saudia Airlines' Boeing 777 plane skids off runway at airport in the Philippines
A plane skidded off the runway at an airport in the Philippines.
The Saudia flight from Riyadh, Saudia Arabia, had just landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila when its landing gears went off the pavement on June 20 afternoon.
The Boeing 777 plane reportedly skidded off the taxiway and was caught on the grassy part where the wheels were stuck.
Despite the mishap, all 420 passengers and crew of the Saudia flight SV862 were safe and shuttled to the airport's Terminal 1.
MIAA General Manager Eddie Monreal told local media on June 21: ‘Seemingly, there was a miscalculation. Based on the situation, it could be related to a miscalculation because it veered to the right, but it's not the final result yet.'
He added that the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) were investigating the incident and would provide initial assessment this week.
He said: ‘That should still be validated by the investigative unit of CAAP.'
The other flights were unhampered but the plane's turnaround flight was rescheduled as the plane would need to be checked before being allowed to take off again.
Since the American-made Boeing 777 first took off in 1994, it has been involved in a total of 29 aviation accidents and incidents.
