Thames Valley Police have warned drivers not to stop on the busy A40 near Burford to look at the ‘Instagrammable’ poppies. The Oxford Mail have reported that vehicles were asked to leave the area by police after reports of “up to 32” cars parked in the verges, people pulling over too quickly, and generally slow traffic.

In footage filmed today (June 21), throngs of people pulled into a layby by the poppies, causing several near misses between vehicles and pedestrians. On one occasion, a wheelchair user was guided out on to the busy A-road which stretches between Oxford and Cheltenham.

According to the Oxford Mail, a woman who lives nearby told police: “I live on this road and it has done nothing but cause problems along the A40 since they flowered.”
