Passing motorists rescued a driver trapped in a burning truck after a crash in southern China.

Video filmed in the city of Chengdu in Sichuan Province on June 18 shows sparks and smoke emerging from a truck that stopped on the greenery in the middle of a highway.

Nearby residents and motorists driving past the area were seen running to rescue the driver trapped inside the truck’s cabin and extinguish the fire.

More than 20 people freed the truck driver successfully in only five minutes.

A man in a black shirt named Xie Hui said he was resting nearby and heard loud noise so he went to check on the situation.

Xie said to Sichuan TV that he saw the sparks when he arrived and he pulled the door open to try to take the driver out but realised that his right foot was trapped under the steering wheel.

Xie then waved his arms to ask for help from passing motorists.

More than 20 people then gathered to extinguish the fire and free the truck driver.

According to local reports, the truck crashed into a pole for a CCTV camera and burst into flames.

The truck cabin was swallowed by flames only one minute after the driver was taken out.

Three fire engines were deployed to put out the fire.

Since the truck driver was rescued and treated in time, he is in a good condition now.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
