This is the shocking moment a cheating cyclist elbowed his rival - sending him crashing into the ground just yards from the finish line.

Aggressive rider Nattapol Bumrungrak, wearing the dark green and blue top, was first seen pushing a competitor out of the way as he moved towards the front of the pack during the race in Phichit province, Thailand, on June 19.

Shockingly, he then weaved through the racers and elbowed Chakphet Worasiri, wearing the dark green top. GoPro footage from another racer following behind them shows how Chakphet lost his balance and toppled over.

Chakphet then crashed into the ground suffering grazes and bruising just a few yards from the finish line of the gruelling road race, in which he had been on course to finish close to the top three.

The Thai Cycling Association has now slapped Nattapol, from the P&K Sports Phitsanulok team, with a one-year suspension over the cheating at the Sports Tourism Bike 4 All race.

The ruling bans him from participating in any of the organisation's races, or any competitions in association-approved venues.

A spokesman said: 'Nattapol's actions have caused two contestants to lose their positions in the race. One of the victims has been left with a serious injury and was deprived of reaching the finish line.

'Such behaviour is a serious offence and the organisation must suspend the offender.'

The injured cyclist Chakphet said his bike had suffered more than 50,000 Baht worth of damages because after the crash it was then ridden over by another compettitor. He also said that he had reported the incident to the police.

Chakphet said: 'The person who caused this needs to pay me compensation and face the consequences of their actions. I was in seventh place and I was close to finishing. It is disappointing that I could not cross the finish line.'
