This is the heartwarming moment a lost kitten was rescued after getting stuck in a sewer.

The hapless baby cat was heard crying underground by market vendors in Chonburi, eastern Thailand, on June 16.

As the moggie was trapped on the bottom of the 7ft-deep concrete drain, the emergency services sent a local rescue team to retrieve the kitten.

Footage shows rescuers using metal pipes to force open the sewer's concrete cover. Panawan Ruenroam then climbed into the dirty hole to carry the feline up to safety.

Panawan said: ‘I used to bring many cats back home with me after I had rescued them. I will take care of this cute one with my five other cats.'

The female kitten was dirty and exhausted but appeared to be healthy. Panawan took her home to have a bath and fresh food.
